AWE Truck Studios Return
With Free Summer Art Activities

Artists Working in Education, Inc., launches the 10th summer of its free mobile art program on Monday, June 30, for children in Milwaukee neighborhoods. Between June 30 and August 8, the four vans in AWE's Truck Studio Fleet of Imagination will travel to 17 park and playground sites for a week (or in some cases two weeks) of free visual art activities for children ages 4-14. The vans are stocked with art supplies and staffed by a team of 14 professional artists, art educators and college art students.

Each week is filled with open-ended art projects designed to spark children’s imaginations by introducing them to basic elements and principles of art, historic and cultural art traditions, often using simple, everyday materials found at home.

This is a drop-in program and children are free to come and go as they please. Parents, caregivers and older siblings are welcome to sit down and create their own art with the group.

Look for the Truck Studios throughout the summer at community festivals and events. Groups often hire the Truck Studio to add children’s art activities to both indoor and outdoor events.

Major project support is provided by the Milwaukee County Parks, Assurant Health Foundation, Einhorn Family Foundation, Buck Foundation, Jewish Women’s Endowment Fund, Milwaukee River Walk District, Windhover Foundation, Lake Park Friends, the Greater Milwaukee Foundation’s Betty Brumder Buzard Fund, Elaine Marshall and many individual donors.

During the school year, AWE sponsors professional artists and apprentices to work creatively with students in Milwaukee schools. During the 2007-2008 school year AWE sponsored 17 School Studio visual arts residencies, including four multi-arts projects.

AWE's mission is to provide youth in the Milwaukee area with arts enrichment programs to enhance human potential, advance learning and cultivate community.

We are always looking for donations of used minivans. Rust? No Problem! We paint right over it. For more information please call 414-933-3877 or visit www.awe-inc.org
