Join our team as a MPS Arts Intern!

Do you want to pursue a creative career and learn more about community-based art? Do you want an inside look at what it takes to be a working artist? Join AWE as a Community Artist in Training to build your artistic practice, create collaborative community art, and learn creative leadership skills working alongside a professional community-based artist!

The Community Artists in Training will actively participate in AWE’s Rising Artists Council, enhancing their artistic techniques and leadership skills while learning how to best position themselves for a creative career. Community Artists in Training will build a portfolio of artwork, network and learn from a professional artist in a 1:1 mentorship pairing, assist with community art-making projects (including mural painting), and develop their vision as community artists. Following a theme of “how to approach their problem using art,” the internship will center experiences in creative problem solving, building creative skills, leadership skills, and professional skills. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: working collaboratively with peers of all backgrounds in a kind and professional manner; attending staff training prior to starting the programs; assisting with set up, delivery, and clean up of planned community arts outreach activities with their mentor artist; actively participating in Rising Artists Council meetings and activities. This is an hourly, part-time position from June to August. Hours are flexible during the week with afternoon and evening hours with a few additional team meetings and trainings. Ideal candidates are seriously considering pursuing a creative career, are building a personal creative practice, and have an interest in community engagement.
